Mashatu Walking Safaris
There are a wide variety of landscapes, vegetation types and eco-systems on Mashatu which should be all experienced first-hand. Walking Mashatu offers the wilderness lover, the bird watcher, the keen botanist, the intrepid hiker and the nature enthusiast the ultimate experience whilst walking in the Land of Giants. Tailor-made walking safaris suit the disposition of the clients on safari. Distances covered per day depend on the ability and preference of the guests. There is no limit on the number of nights spent on the walking safari. It is however suggested that at least three nights are booked. Guests camp out in one of three camps specifically designed for comfort in the bush. Luggage is transported by vehicle between camps to give guest the opportunity to have full enjoyment of the walk, without having to carry any luggage.
Mashatu Cultural/Village Excursion
The rugged landscapes of Mashatu, ‘Land of Giants’, offer a sensational view of the sub-continent, unchanged since the days of Kipling, Selous and artist/explorer Sir Thomas Baines. But strewn and scattered throughout the reserve lie the ghosts of Africa’s early legacy – ancient ruins that yield even more lucid insights into the forefathers who shaped the continent’s history.
Mashatu Cycle Safaris
Bring your mountain bike and ride amongst the wildlife of the vast Northern Tuli Game Reserve. You owe yourself the opportunity at least once in your life!
Cycle Mashatu operates the cycling concession on Mashatu Game Reserve. Cycling is offered to guests from both Main Camp and Tent Camp as an experience to be enjoyed during their stay on a more traditional vehicle safari. Guests can also book a ‘camp wild’ cycling experience comprising up to three days on a cycling safari. These safaris depart Fridays and Tuesdays in the winter months where Cycle Mashatu offers a 3 night guided mountain biking adventure, catering for up to 8 cyclists. Enjoy riding elephant manicured game paths, sleeping under the starlit skies and exploring the ancient Land of the Giants. Cycle Mashatu tailors the tours to suit the group’s fitness and strength and provides vehicle support, meals, and camp amenities. Many would argue that you have not lived until you have cycled in the Land of Giants – a thrilling experience indeed.
Room of Discovery
The Discovery Room, situated at Mashatu Lodge (Main Camp), is a museum of all things Mashatu, past and present.

At present we have displays of:
1. Fish aquaria of the some of the local species.
2. Live species of snakes, scorpions, spiders and crocodiles.
3. Archaeological artifacts.
4. A collection of Boer War remains found on Mashatu.
5. Reconstructed skeletons.
6. Findings of the predator and elephant research that has been conducted on Mashatu.
This facility is an opportunity for our guests to browse through during the period between safaris.
Mashatu Main Camp Reviews
“Mashatu Main Camp ticked all the boxes of what we were looking for in a holiday destination. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The game drives were awesome, and we saw almost all the cats that are in the game reserve, which was great for us. Extremely difficult to find another destination that betters Mashatu Main Camp.” – Kundiandshami
“Our family spent four days at Mashutu, and every single day we had amazing wildlife sightings. Highlights included a group of five cheetah who had just made a kill (we missed the chase by just seconds it seemed) and two lionesses with four cubs, probably just a couple of months old.” – DJB_travels2015
“Mashatu has set a high bar for me to compare other reserves now. Albeit highly expensive but the experience makes it all worth it. The staff was kind, very supportive and the rangers did their best to show wildlife in its best form. Food was good too and they catered to my vegan diet. I liked it overall.” – Aparna S
