Camp Moremi is a hidden gem peeking out of the ebony trees within the Moremi Wildlife Reserve
Sheltered by ancient ebony trees and set on the banks of the lush Xakanaxa (pronounced ‘ka-ka-na-ka’) lagoon in the pristine wetland of the Okavango Delta, Camp Moremi provides a true ‘get away from it all’ safari experience. With only 11 East African-style safari tents and located in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, Camp Moremi is ideal for those keen on ‘unplugging’ from modern communications but who still want some 21st century creature comforts.
One of the best ways to explore the Delta is via a mokoro, which is based on a traditional dugout canoe. ‘Water safaris’ allow you to go in search of hippo and water fowl, and are a tranquil way of understanding this vast and fragile ecosystem. Back at Camp Moremi, tuck into their famous homemade bread at lunch and then take to your viewing deck with a book and binoculars – or to your king-sized bed for a lazy siesta.
Shaded by giant ebony trees, the magnificent Moremi tree lodge is an elegant elevated thatch and timber structure, consisting of a main lounge, wildlife reference library, dining room and cocktail bar. Other facilities include a secluded swimming pool with sun deck, thatched boma and elevated viewing hide with unsurpassed views of the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Camp Moremi accommodates only 22 guests in East African-style safari tents, individually situated on raised teak platforms with private adjacent facilities & viewing decks.

Artfully constructed from thatch and wood, the elevated Moremi Tree Lodge is the focal point of the camp and houses the main lounge, a wildlife reference library, dining area and cocktail bar, all shaded by giant ebony trees with a deck overlooking the lagoon. A wooden walkway leads to the secluded pool area, perfect for a refreshing swim in the afternoons between game drives.
Activities center around tracking big game on morning and afternoon game drives by open 4×4 safari vehicle in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, renowned for frequent sightings of lion, leopard & cheetah, as well as wild dog, whose numbers are so rapidly dwindling in other areas. Exploring the Xakanaxa Lagoon and surrounding Okavango channels by motorboat, affords guests exceptional bird-watching opportunities, as birdlife is prolific and varied, ranging from water birds to shy forest dwellers. Camp Moremi forms part of the Desert & Delta Safaris’ portfolio of lodges, which include Chobe Game Lodge, Chobe Savanna Lodge, Savute Safari Lodge, Xugana Island Lodge & Camp Okavango. Desert & Delta Safaris believes in sustainable, environmentally and socially conscious tourism and offers unique wildlife, nature and cultural experiences.
Camp Moremi Reviews
“Moremi has fabulous grounds (far more attractive than other safari camps that we visited). Rooms are excellent – both spacious and luxurious). Meals are excellent and there was an attractive fire around which guests congregate after dinner. Our guide was good if not charismatic but we did see amazing wildlife including leopard, lion and lots of birds together with more common animals. Staff were very accommodating.” –recentvoyager
“At Camp Moremi you can spend a very relaxing time for game-viewing. The facilities are in perfect condition and everything is clean. Game drives and boat tours are offered to get very close to the animals. Perfect” –xtraveller71
“Stayed here for our honeymoon and it was great. We will always look back at our time at Camp Moremi with the fondest of memories. Don’t hesitate to book this camp for the best of the Bush and the waterways of the Okovango Delta. Drinks and food provided was of a high quality and all of the staff were amazing. We would return to Camp Moremi in a heart beat” –April K
